Pediatric Hospital Construction – Part of St. Luke’s Hospital
The construction of the 9,000 square feet pediatric hospital broke ground in September 2016. The St. Luke’s Hospital is located across from the Marilyn Miller Memorial Clinic. The hospital when completed, will have intensive care capability, the first of its kind in the region. The hospital will have 40 pediatric beds, 11 beds for newborn babies, and 4 maternity recovery beds. The HKF has invested in training doctors, nurses, and other support staff to run the hospital upon completion. The construction is being done by South Sudanese under the supervision of professional engineers both from the USA and South Sudan. At the peak of construction, the hospital project was one of few sources of employment in Kajo Keji County, South Sudan where unemployment is very high. The hospital construction plays a key role in stimulating the local economy, boosting family incomes, and nurturing construction talents that will be critical in the rebuilding efforts in South Sudan.
